A True Georgia Peach (& another namesake.... for good)

OK so today's blog is so brief it may give the impression that i am once again slacking.... when, in actuality, this topic is for once to the point.  Our longterm plan is to have a nonprofit of our own and to do some good in the world for those who lack the resources for themselves.  We checked out a couple of names for future use, figuring Joie de Vivre would be taken.  So instead we opted for Joy Foundation.... well it turns out THAT is the name that is already taken (JdV on the other hand is ripe for our eventual picking... yea)

And so with the fallidays nearly upon us here is what this sweet cause for good is doing to help others in their community.  Enjoie


In their own words, here's what they're all about: 

"What do we do?

Through our "Tackle Hunger" program, the JOY Foundation feeds over 450 families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday. In 2009, our "Shop With A Hero" program provided Christmas JOY to over 1000 children of need.  This year that number will most certainly increase.

Why do we do it?

Neil Postman said that "our children are the messages we send out to a time that we will never see."  What kind of messages are we sending?  Are they messages of love, hope and joy?  The JOY Foundation of Georgia exists to help children of need in our communities.  By ministering to their physical needs we may be able to minister to their spiritual needs as well.

'One hundred years from now it will not matter what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had, nor what my clothes were like.  But the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child.'"

Here is the scoop on their wittily named Tackle Hunger program:

The City of Acworth Parks and Recreation Department together with the JOY Foundation's Tackle Hunger program has fed hundreds of families each holiday season since 2003. Through a community effort, the Acworth Parks and Recreation Department will hold the 2010 Acworth Turkey Chase 5K Fun Run & 2K Walk on Saturday, November 20 through Historic Downtown Acworth to collect non- perishable food items as to aid in the 2010 Tackle Hunger Food Drive . Last year’s inaugural event had over 750 participants and collected 1,800 non-perishable food items.
